Event Instructions & Rules
Thank you for your interest in our fundraising event.
There is no registration fee to participate. Simply complete the registration process and place your initial donation. With your initial donation of $25 (or more) Pedometers will be provided at no cost to Participants. Quantities are limited and will be available to the first 1,500 Participants.
Minimum Suggested Fundraising Goals: (although we hope you raise more!)
For individuals, a minimum suggested fundraising goal is $350
For health care professionals, a special challenge is presented to raise a minimum of $1,000
The event takes place over five days, making your distance goal realistic and achievable. The fundraiser starts at 6:00 am on Wednesday, September 21 and ends at 8:00 pm on Sunday, September 25, 2011.
Invite Others to Participate
Each Participant is asked to invite three individuals to join in the event. This simple gesture will significantly help us to raise the important funds required to produce patient resources, materials and programs.
Participants can choose to walk one of three distances over the five day event:
- 20,000 step challenge (approx. 15 km)
- 10,000 step challenge (approx. 7.5 km)
- 650 step challenge (approx. ½ km) - Ideal for those individuals that are facing orthopaedic issues or are recovering from orthopaedic surgery.
Facts:
- There are approximately 1,320 steps in a kilometre
- On average men walk 7,192 steps per day
- On average, women walk 5,210 steps per day
- 10,000 steps = approx. 7.5 km
The event is suitable for anyone able to walk short or long distances.
Please remember you are responsible for your own safety for the duration of the event. We recommend contacting your surgeon before beginning any exercise program.
